An epic story about spies, rebels, and authority figures all clashing against each other, but then something changes and things become inextricably complicated. The story takes place in 859 AD, China, when the Tang Dynasty, which was once a great time, is declining. It has somewhat of a Robin Hood element to it. Numerous rebel groups have sprung up, unhappy with the current Dynasty, and one group in particular, The House of Flying Daggers which are notorious, give to the poor after stealing from the rich.
The film focuses on Mei Mei (Zhang Ziyi), a beautiful but blind dancer who is suspected of having links to The House of Flying Daggers. Two policemen, Jin (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and Leo (Andy Lau) arrest her, but later free her so that she may lead to them to the new leader of the rebel group, which has mysteriously become stronger even after the death of the leader. It soon becomes an adventure of woven lies and deceit, with excellent fight scenes filmed against beautiful backdrops and historical costumes. With the addition of a tragic love story, you have an action drama fused with martial arts and great acting from some of the best actors around.
